If food be the music of love, wok on

Updated: Aug 5, 2020

So my friends from Florida, Bruno and Wendy

descended upon SG.

We went into a frenzy

To purvey our Asian fare

Don't you dare

Compete with me

'Cos it's hard to beat my hubby's orh nee

or his lychee-peach jelly.

Until he met his match in our host

Serene who boasts

of an eclectic spread of local dishes

whipped up by her dedicated army of helpers.

Pig legs

with hard boiled eggs

in black vinegar divine.

Arguably one of its kind.

Chilly assam fish

coupled with brown rice

Truly a dish

from paradise.

Alison's char siew

Is way better than beef stew.

Oh wait, there's also the chap chai

My palate doesn't lie

It's possibly

The best in Dalvey.

Footnotes:

Orh nee: yam paste in the Chinese Hokkien dialect

Char siew: Chinese barbequed pork in the Cantonese dialect

Chap chai: Mixed vegetables (predominantly white cabbage) in the Hokkien dialet
